A Paved Trail Runs Through This New Mexico Town And It’s The Ultimate Outdoor Playground

The Land of Enchantment is called that for a reason. It is rather enchanting, isn't it? In just about every corner of the state is a hidden gem, a natural wonder, or an incredible hiking trail just waiting for you to discover. And our trails often lead to something wonderful like scenery, an overlook, or a swimming hole. If you prefer a paved trail in New Mexico, there are plenty of those running through the state as well. The La Llorona Trail, for example, is one such paved trail excellent for hiking, biking, and jogging, so head to Mesilla just outside Las Cruces and discover your next outdoor adventure.

La Llorona Trail is a multi-use path located in Las Cruces near Mesilla, New Mexico. Running alongside the Rio Grande, this trail provides ample opportunities for exploration and recreation.

One of the best parts about the La Llorona Trail is the fact that it's paved. Not only can you hike, walk, and jog but bike, rollerskate, and rollerblade!

It's also wheelchair-friendly and stroller-friendly, so more people are able to get out and enjoy some fresh air and scenery.

If you want to trek it in its entirety, it's a 9-mile out-and-back trail. However, it's rated as easy and mostly flat. Time-wise, you'll have to set aside about 2.5 hours to complete.

La Llorona Trail begins at La Llorona Park and follows the Rio Grande with no street crossings at any point. It's a wonderfully safe paved path to enjoy.

As you walk or bike along, keep your eyes peeled for birds and other wildlife.

Depending on when you visit, you'll either see water in the Rio Grande or a dry riverbed. Either way, you should be able to spot plenty of wildlife on your journey.
