Encounter Not One But Three Hot Springs On New Mexico’s San Antonio Hot Springs Trail In The Santa Fe National Forest
What type of hiker are you? Do you hit the trails for the scenery, the exercise, or both? I love hiking mostly for the scenery. If there's a waterfall, great! I do love to chase waterfalls but what may be even better is hiking a hot springs trail in New Mexico. With three hot sprigs on the San Antonio Trail near Los Alamos, this is one hike to add to your bucket list.
Head to Los Alamos and discover an otherworldly trail that will take you to not one but three hot springs! This is the San Antonio Hot Springs Trail and it's absolutely worth it.
A moderate trail, according to our friends at AllTrails, this out-and-back trail is 1.5 miles long. While the total hiking time for most people will be around 40 minutes, this is one trail you'll want to spend a bit of time at.
However, if you come here in the cooler months, the road to this trailhead will be closed and the alternative hiking route is around 10 miles. You may want to do this hike in the warmer months and check AllTrails for the current trail reports before you go.
As the trailhead is deep in the Santa Fe National Forest, it is suggested to use a 4x4 vehicle to access it as the road is quite rocky. But the effort to get here will be worth it, believe me!
After taking the trek one way, you will encounter what you most likely came here for — the hot springs!
Together in the same area are three separate natural hot springs, perfect for a mid-hike soak. Don't forget to bring your bathing suit and a towel.
The pools differ slightly in temperature so you may as well try them all. And when you sit in each one, spend some time admiring the natural beauty of the area. It's simply magical!
