Winter may be here, but that doesn’t mean you need to stay holed up in your home. In fact, some areas of the state see lovely mild temperatures this time of year with cool days and plenty of sunshine.
If you’re looking for a reason to get out of the house or have some grocery shopping to do, then you’re in luck! Today, we’re checking out one of New Mexico’s finest farmers markets and you won’t be disappointed.
This is the Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market, hosted in downtown Las Cruces. The market first began operating in 1971 and has grown into one of New Mexico's best farmers markets. In fact, the market earned the title "Number One Farmers Market In The Nation" in a 2011 nationwide poll by America's Farmland Trust.
This is the perfect place to do your grocery shopping. You'll find fresh fruits and veggies sold straight from the farm.
Produce isn't the only thing you'll find here for groceries. Artisanal bread, pastries, and fresh eggs are also available.
Canned and dried goods are also available, like some sweet local honey. Yum!
You'll also find a variety of handmade crafts, including soaps, musical instruments, clothing, vintage items, and more.
You might even find an artist hard at work!
If you get hungry while walking through the market, stop by one of the food vendors! You'll find plenty of options for food and drinks.
Enjoy some of the live entertainment along Main Street, like local musicians playing crowd favorites...
...a car show...
...or even lucha libre!
A few tips before you arrive:
1. Bring cash! Some vendors do not accept credit cards. 2. Arrive early to make sure you're one of the first people to choose from the produce available. 3. Bring an extra bag! You never know what you might find while strolling through the market so make sure you have enough bags to carry everything.
The Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market is held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 1 pm. The Wednesday market is held at the Plaza de Las Cruces on 100 Main Street and the Saturday market is held in the same area on Main Street. You can find details on their website and Facebook page.
