One such place is the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, which are located in New Mexico’s far north region and expand into Colorado.
The name, which translates to "blood of Christ," refers to the red shade the mountains take during sunrise and sunset.

In fact, Taos Ski Valley is located here. The village and resort are known for having slopes that are perfect for winter activities like skiing and snowboarding.
If you really want to feel like you’re on top of the world, though, try a hike up Wheeler Peak. This is New Mexico’s highest peak and will give you some spectacular views of the land.
