Embudito Canyon Loop can be found in the Sandia Foothills in the Sandia Mountain Wilderness just outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. No matter what time of year it is, this 3.9-mile loop is always a great option when you are looking to lace up your hiking shoes, pack a few protein bars, and get out into nature for some fresh air.
This trail will take you up and around the canyon for a quick trek that's perfect for any weekday or weekend morning. While the loop is enjoyable both clockwise and counterclockwise, we highly recommend going clockwise so you can admire the incredible view of downtown Albuquerque on your way back down the canyon.
While this is a quick hike, you will gain over 1,000 feet of elevation during the walk, making it the perfect difficulty level.
There are tons of amazing boulders located all along the trail as well. Whether you are a climber, and are using the trail to access these boulders, or just want to stop and watch some other adventurers enjoying climbing the rocks, Embudito Canyon Loop is a great option.
Dogs are also allowed on the loop but be sure to keep them on leash. They are sure to enjoy these wide trails as much as you will.
Being a popular trail, you may even be lucky enough to come across some rock art that prior adventurers have left behind.
If you hike this trail counterclockwise, you will be heading down the Oso Ridge for the last mile of your hike. Be sure to watch your footing and not get too distracted by the incredible view!
This is a classic hike that you should mix into your routine this year. You'll be sure to catch some great views along the way!
