This scenic outdoor spot in New Mexico, for example, promises breathtaking natural beauty.
Drink in pure natural beauty when you visit Elena Gallegos Open Space and Albert G. Simms Park, in Albuquerque, which spans 640 glorious acres and boasts stunning views of...
The Sandia Mountains. Bring a picnic along, so you can kick back, relax, and enjoy a delicious meal as you admire the views.
You'll find seven picnic areas at the park. If you're coming with a group, make a reservation at one of the two separate picnic areas that feature barbecue grills.
If you're up for a leisurely hike, you're in luck. The open space boasts several trails, including the 2.5-mile Pino Loop Trail.
Although the trail is rated moderate, some of those who have hiked it consider it easy. It's popular with hikers and runners.
However, be prepared to deal with some rocky terrain. The rewards - from stellar views of the landscape to glimpses of local wildlife - are well worth it.
Bring cash, too, as you'll have a $1 per vehicle fee Monday through Friday and $2 per vehicle fee on Saturday and Sunday.
Embrace nature at Elena Gallegos Open Space, open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the winter (beginning November 1). Spring hours run 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and begin on April 1 annually.
