There’s Nothing Better Than These Scenic Nevada Hot Springs

Nevada is chock full of gorgeous and relaxing hot springs; however, many of them pale in comparison to Spencer Hot Springs. Located in Austin off Hwy 50 — "The Loneliest Road in America" — these scenic Nevada hot springs are nestled in the Big Smoky Valley, and this remote location is what makes these hot springs the epitome of relaxation.

Spencer Hot Springs is a cluster of natural springs and man-made pools on public land with incredible panoramic views of the Toiyabe Mountains.

These amazing springs consist of three pools that flow by pipes into more-or-less primitive metal tubs (actually converted cattle troughs).

With three pools to choose from, visitors have the chance to try different pools to find the perfect fit.

Water temperatures hold steady at around 130 degrees Fahrenheit year round.

Be careful when entering the water to prevent accidental scalding.

The tubing props are designed to let the spring water filter into them.

These inflow pipes are movable so you can adjust the pool's temperature.

If you look closely, you can see a large school of small-to-medium orange fish swimming happily in the water.

The metal helps the water stay warm, particular in the winter months when the springs are especially popular.

There is a good chance you will see members of the charming herd of wild burros who live in the valley.

The views become even more magical at dusk when gorgeous sunsets of pink, purple, and gold illuminate the sky.

The first pool tends to be the most crowded as it is the nearest to the road. The water runs down into a series of other tubs including an in-ground stone pool and another metal tub below.

Ah, this is the life.

To reach the springs, take Hwy 50 from Austin and travel east approximately 12 miles until it reaches State Route 376. Follow the signs to Toquima Cave and then follow the dirt road six more miles.
