We think yes, yes, yes, and more yes. Those who know about this one will always swear by its simplicity and beauty, and those who don't know about this one yet are in for a real treat. The vastly underappreciated Walnut Creek Lake Trail West is one of our favorite hidden gems in Nebraska, and the reasons why are as plain as day.

The trail is 3.3 miles long, but don't worry - it's paved the entire way, making it highly accessible for most folks of varying skill levels.

There are a few areas during the hike where you'll find yourself traversing slightly uphill on some somewhat-steep grades, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy even still.

It's great for walkers, runners, joggers, bikers, and those of us who prefer the most leisurely of afternoon strolls.

During the spring, the area leaps back to life, and throughout the summer months, it's a vibrantly green, lush area loved by many a local. Birds begin returning to the area in spring, and it adds to the quiet beauty of Walnut Creek Lake.

The birdwatching is addictive and all, but the real draw about the Walnut Creek Lake Trail West is definitely the lake itself.

It's a shimmering, pristine blue body of water that seems to reflect the endless sky above like a perfect mirror. People from all walks of life will fall in love with it immediately, no matter what they came for.

Walnut Creek Lake is a favorite spot among locals for fishing; try your hand at catching some catfish, bluegill, or bass. You can also camp here, so if you fall in love with it as much as we did (we think you will), you can sleep here, too!

Few things are as amazing as the watching night sky above when you're camping at this stunning little oasis right here in our backyard.

The lake is a popular area for picnicking, too, so bring a lunch when you come out - it's really wonderful to munch on your favorite sandwich while overlooking this beautiful place.

Watching the sunset over the lake is incredible and well worth a visit all on its own!
