If you want a short and sweet hike with incredible views, the North Overlook Trail at Scotts Bluff National Monument is the perfect place to go! Located in Gering, Nebraska, this little hike will take you to some of the best scenery in town. Bring your camera because you won’t want to forget these views!

If you want to take a day to explore Nebraska’s beautiful countryside, head to Scotts Bluff National Monument.

This historic area is home to the North Platte River, part of the Oregon, Mormon, and California Trails, and has served as an important landmark to the local Native Americans.

There are two great trails in this area to see stunning views.

There’s the North Overlook Trail and the South Overlook Trail. Each one is a short jaunt with spectacular scenery.

The North Overlook Trail is short and sweet, and only a 0.6-mile hike.

The trail is paved, so it is is highly accessible to everyone. Even dogs are allowed to walk with you on a leash!

Pair both trails together for a slightly longer hike that totals around 1 mile.

This national monument is considered "a landmark for the ages," and the trails offer a stunning birds-eye view of a spot filled with geological and paleontological history.

You’ll spot lots of local wildflowers along the trail.

Find cactus flowers along with juniper and ponderosa pine trees. The area is filled with a wide array of beautiful plants, including prairie grass.

You won’t find much shade along the hike, so bring a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen.

You’ll also find interpretive signs explaining a little more about the area and what you are seeing. On a clear day you can even see as far as Chimney Rock in the east.

As this hike is very easy to do, you need to bring the whole family to enjoy these sights.
