There’s A Market On This Farm In Nebraska That You’ll Definitely Want To Visit
BeeHaven Farm Roadside Market offers locally-grown produce, meats, and other products, and hosts community events in Nebraska.
Although they aren't as prevalent as in previous generations, roadside farm stands can still be found in the Nebraska countryside. These delightful shops carry farm-fresh products that, in many cases, were grown just steps away.
BeeHaven Farm Roadside Market is a true gem in the Panhandle.
Located on Highway 71 near Harrisburg and Kimball, the farm/market specializes in locally-grown produce, meats, and eggs, along with locally-produced products like cheese, breads, gifts, candies, pastries, and honey. The shop also carries livestock feed to keep your own critters full and healthy.
The store is run by a retired teacher and a retired trucker.
It's a dream come true for this team of friends who wanted to bring together the best local, sustainably-produced products under one roof.
You can buy the raw produce here that you would expect from a roadside farm stand, but you'll also be delighted to find a more complex line of offerings.
The simple salad mixes are made from triple-washed heirloom lettuce and salad greens grown right on the farm. The cheeses are sourced from nearby Double L Goat Dairy.
There's a lovely feeling of community at the little store.
People come from miles around to shop here, both to support local businesses and to find products that you just can't find on supermarket shelves.
BeeHaven isn't just a resale shop - it's a real working farm/ranch.
They raise chickens, sheep, cattle, goats, and bees. If you buy meat here, you can be confident that it was raised humanely and sustainably.
There's really nothing better than farm-fresh eggs...but you'll have to get there pretty early in the day if you want to snatch up some of these delicious treats.
You can also find BeeHaven's eggs, honey, produce, and other products at the Scottsbluff summer and winter farmers markets.
BeeHaven's charms go far beyond its roadside market. The farm also hosts events throughout the warmer season, including wine and cheese tastings and musical events.
And in the winter, you can enjoy a beautiful Christmas market with gifts for everyone on your list.
Farm tours can be arranged in advance for groups who want to learn more about the operation.
Here, a group of local students learns about where their food comes from. It's an important lesson for people of any age. Learning it in such a vibrant setting instills a sense of appreciation for the hard work that goes into what we eat every day.
Perhaps the pinnacle event of BeeHaven's year is the Eat Up The Farm event which takes place at the end of the harvest season.
The meal is a fundraiser for the farm. It features food grown at BeeHaven and other local farms, prepared onsite and served country-style on a long table right there on the farm. Doesn't this look inviting?
BeeHaven Farm Roadside Market is currently closed for the season. They plan to reopen for 2017 on Memorial Day weekend. Keep up to date on hours, special events, and products on their Facebook page. Also be sure to visit their website for more information.
