Anyone who’s spent time in Minnesota knows that our state is full of amazing nature destinations. And it’s not just our 10,000 lakes that we’re proud of, either. Minnesota is home to dozens of incredible state parks that offer up waterfall views, cliffside overlooks, and forest hikes - to name a few. Each of our state parks is worth visiting, but one, in particular, stands out above the rest. Tettegouche State Park was recently named the best state park in Minnesota by Condé Nast Traveler. When you catch a glimpse of its rocky cliffs, rushing waterfall, and amazing views of Lake Superior, you’ll soon see why. Take a look:
Tettegouche State Park is a Minnesota state park nestled on the banks of Lake Superior. It covers more than 9,000 acres along the North Shore, making it an excellent place to explore for nature lovers up north.
There is plenty to see at this beautiful park. For one thing, its location on Lake Superior means it has incredible views.
Shovel Point and Palisade Head, two rocky cliffs over the North Shore, are popular overlooks. Visit to see the choppy waters of Lake Superior far below!
Further into the park, there are many hiking trails to explore, including the Superior Hiking Trail. Pick one, and venture into the thick forest of this wild park. It’s teeming with wildlife, and if you’re lucky you’ll spot some!
Some trails lead to lakes. Aside from Lake Superior, Tettegouche State Park is home to six lakes. If you’re an angler, these lakes could become your go-to fishing spots for northern pike or walleye.
The most popular trail in the park, however, is the one that leads to the High Falls of the Baptism River. This 70-foot waterfall tumbles over a rugged cliff on its way to Lake Superior.
It’s the largest waterfall fully in Minnesota! It's beautiful in every season, and no trip to Tettegouche State Park is complete without visiting it.
Next time you’re looking for a nature adventure in Minnesota, check out Tettegouche State Park. It might just be the best in the state!
