The Little Known Cave In Minnesota That Everyone Should Explore At Least Once
Niagara Cave in southeastern Minnesota offers guided tours showcasing its otherworldly beauty, including a subterranean waterfall.
In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, we enjoy countless waterfalls and millions of acres of undisturbed woods, so it's not too hard to find gorgeous natural areas to enjoy. It's so easy, in fact, that there's no real need to venture below ground for a glimpse of beauty. But if you like to explore Minnesota's hidden places, you might want to consider a little-known cave in the southern part of the state. Not many people have heard of Niagara Cave in Minnesota, but those who have rave about its otherworldly beauty. Take a look!
Niagara Cave is a privately owned cave in southeastern Minnesota.
Though it is small, many media outlets have named it one of the best caves in Minnesota and in the entire United States.
Though privately owned, there are guided tours through its cavernous depths. Head down several staircases to explore.
At a constant temperature of 48 degrees, it's a fantastic place to cool down on a summertime visit.
The tour lasts one hour and spans one mile. Because of the stairs, it is not accessible by strollers or wheelchairs.
Along the way, you'll be met with smooth tunnels carved by underground streams over millions of years.
You'll have the chance to see fossils of ancient animals. They're estimated to be around 450 million years old.
You'll see some manmade structures, too! Within the depths of the cave is a wedding chapel where more than 400 couples have tied the knot.
But it's not until the most popular feature when you'll understand how this cave got its name.
Though not as big as Niagara Falls, the small waterfall in the Niagara Cave is nothing short of impressive.
After all, it's not every day you get to venture 200 feet underground. And it's even more rare that you get to see a subterranean waterfall!
