Afton State Park offers a scenic 8.6-mile hiking trail with diverse landscapes and moderate difficulty.

Sometimes you just need to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and find a quiet, peaceful spot. Just an hour east of the city, you'll find this beautiful state park that offers a hiking trail you won't forget.

Afton State Park is located about an hour east of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

The loop trail at the park takes you on an 8.6 mile journey.

You'll hike through trees, where the shady trail offers a nice respite from the heat of the day.

The trail also takes you through pretty meadows...

...where you'll enjoy the rural, pastoral countryside.

You'll also walk alongside the St. Croix River...

...and also enjoy a gorgeous view of the river from the overlook.

Along the way, watch for blooming flowers...

...and keep your eye out for wildlife!

The hike is considered moderate difficulty due of its distance and elevation gain of 1,118 feet, so feel free to rest on the benches you'll find along the trail.

Dogs are welcome on this trail! Keep them on leash, and please clean up after them. Your pup will love this hike.
