Are you on the lookout for a calm, relaxing, and decidedly uncrowded destination here in the Great Lakes State? There’s plenty to be said for our more popular waterfront areas, from state parks along Lake Michigan to the Detroit Riverwalk – but nothing beats a more remote, peaceful experience. If you’re ready to embark on an adventure to quite possibly the most remote lake in Michigan, read on.
Avery Lake State Forest Campground is located off Avery Lake Road in Atlanta, Michigan.
If you’re eager to unwind among rugged, largely untouched natural beauty, this is the perfect spot for you. Whether you’re here with the whole family or heading out for a solo journey, you’re sure to be impressed.
The campground itself consists of 16 campsites in a rustic environment. Tents and small trailers can be used here, and sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis – so plan your adventure accordingly.
At the heart of this gorgeous campground, which is tucked away among towering trees, is Avery Lake itself. This remote and scenic lake might not compare to the Great Lakes in size, but it’s plenty spectacular.
The lake boasts 320 brilliant acres that can easily be explored by way of the campground’s boat launch. Smaller vessels like kayaks are also a fantastic option for those who prefer to paddle the day away.
Fishing is a popular activity among visitors here, as the lake houses everything from walleye to perch to largemouth bass. Others might prefer to simply settle in for a scenic afternoon along the shoreline.
When temperatures rise, take a dip in the refreshing waters of this remote treasure before heading back to enjoy a campfire alongside your tent. The campground remains open during the spring, summer, and fall.
The next time you’re hoping to get away from it all without breaking the bank, hop in the car and head out for a day or two of pure serenity at Avery Lake. Adventurers of all ages will quickly fall in love with this spot.
