The Four-Mile Trail In Massachusetts That Leads To An Extraordinary Waterfall
A trip to the Middlesex Fells Reservation near Boston never disappoints. The hikes here are some of the best in the state! No matter how much time I have or how strenuous of a hike I want to do, I can always find a terrific trail. If you have enjoyed the beautiful views along the Reservation's seven-mile Skyline Outer Reservoir Loop Trail and the three-mile Rock Circuit Trail Loop, you should definitely try the Melrose Rock, Black Rock, and Pinnacle Rock via Rock Circuit Loop.
This scenic trail is a 4.2-mile loop that begins near the parking lot at the Flynn Skating Rink in Medford. Allow yourself at least two hours to walk this moderately challenging path.
The trail is well-marked in some places, but more confusing to navigate in other parts. Be sure to download a trail map or bring a good one along with you.
As you may have guessed from the name of the trail, this hike is quite rocky! Be prepared to walk up and over rocks and hills.
The beautiful skyline views are one of the reasons why the Melrose Rock, Black Rock, and Pinnacle Rock via Rock Circuit Loop is considered to be a top-rated hike.
You can see both parts of Melrose and Boston from several locations along the trail.
If you are lucky, you will be able to view some local wildlife. Chipmunks, snakes, birds, and even deer have been spotted along the trail.
Be sure to bring your binoculars as well as a hiking journal to document your trip. Bug spray is also recommended because the trail tends to get buggy at times.
Cascade Falls is a quick detour off the trail. You definitely won’t want to miss this beautiful photo opportunity.
The waterfall is most stunning after it rains.
