A trip to Maryland's best waterparks is always a great idea, especially if you're looking for a refreshing, family-friendly day trip. But did you know that there are natural swimming holes all around, and even one where you can stand right under a waterfall? If you're feeling adventurous, outdoorsy, and oh-so-hot, take to Kilgore Falls trail to reach one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Maryland. A day of beautiful fun awaits!
To find this magical waterfall-fed swimming hole in Maryland, head to Rocks State Park in Harford County.
This beautiful spot is known for its hiking trails, especially when it comes to the King and Queen Seat overlook (pictured above).
Walk 1.2 miles along Falling Branch Trail and you'll arrive at Kilgore Falls.
This natural wonder is the second highest free-falling waterfall in the state. It was also used as a filming location for the Disney movie, Tuck Everlasting.
You can visit Kilgore Falls year-round but summertime is most popular because you can stand right under the falls!
This looks extremely refreshing.
Water height varies depending on the season or recent rainfall. Be aware that this area is swim-at-your-own-risk, with no lifeguards on duty.
You can simply wade along the perimeter or head towards to falls where the water is a bit deeper.
Those interested in visiting Kilgore Falls during summer should be sure to arrive early. Hot summer days (especially weekends) could get crowded.
Plan your adventure today, and have fun!
