The Hike To Maryland’s Cascade Falls Is Short And Sweet

Cascade Falls in Patapsco Valley State Park is a family-friendly waterfall hike perfect for all seasons.

Maryland has a handful of waterfalls and each and every one is worth seeking out. Some are easier to get to than others. The trail to the following local waterfall is less than a mile in length, making it perfect for beginner hikers or those who don't want to spend an entire day exploring.

This short and sweet path can be done in just a few minutes but the views are no less impressive. Check it out, and prepare for natural beauty all around.

Maryland's Cascade Falls trail is located in the Avalon area at Patapsco Valley State Park.

This area is mostly known for the swinging bridge, but the trailhead to the waterfall is just a few steps away.

Park your car and be on the lookout for this sign. From here, the waterfall is only a quarter mile away!

It's almost unbelievable how easy it is to access this spot.

Although the trek is short, the path is rocky. Strollers are not recommended.

You'll encounter minor elevation changes and boulders along the way. Be sure to wear shoes with good tread, especially if it has recently rained.

After a quarter mile, you'll arrive at Cascade Falls. Have a seat on a nearby boulder or tree stump and enjoy listening to the sounds of water trickling down the rocks.

During warmer months, you may also spot people cooling down in the water. It's a shallow depth, perfect for children to splash around.

This spot can be accessed year-round, but autumn is undeniably the most colorful time to visit. Hues of copper sprinkle the surroundings, make for a picturesque scene.
