All across the state of Maryland, there are some incredible parks that are just begging to be visited. We have parks to hike in, fish in, and even boat in, and parks where wildflowers bloom like crazy that are perfect for picnics. But if you’re looking for the newest set of pickleball courts in Howard County, Maryland, look no further than Western Regional Park. This incredible 4,800-square-foot piece of parkland is now home to the largest pickleball court in the county. As an added bonus, Western Regional Park is mere minutes from Warfield Pond Park, which promises some of the most tranquil scenery you could hope to find in the Old Line State.
Western Regional Park is absolutely enormous, with plenty of jungle gyms and picnic shelters scattered throughout the grounds. The sky is huge in this part of Howard County, with open tracts of farmland running clear to the horizon.
All around Western Regional Park, there are installations like these that offer both unique visuals and climbable attractions. Keep the kids busy by letting them scamper up the rocks while you enjoy a quiet afternoon in the autumn sunshine.
The highlight of Western Regional Park is the colossal pickleball and tennis court setup. There are plenty of courts for all, and they operate on a first-come, first-serve basis (pun not intended), so be sure to arrive early if you’re looking to play.
Venturing just up the road from the pickleball courts will lead you to Warfield Pond, a quiet little park with a beautifully kept boardwalk encircling the water.
The pond is stocked with fish and even has a few places to put boats in. The fishing pier juts out into the ripples, where it’s possible to spend the day waiting for a bite.
Walking beneath the trees on a sunny autumn day is one of my favorite ways to get some fresh air and view the changing leaves!
