Visiting This One Mountain Lake In Maryland Is Like Experiencing A Dream

Did you know that Maryland is the only state with no natural lakes? Even though our lakes are all man-made, they're still incredibly beautiful, especially when it comes to our largest. Deep Creek Lake is a Western Maryland gem that's worth visiting at least once. However, one visit, and you just may want to make this impressive body of water an annual vacation spot. In my opinion, it's one of the best lakes in Maryland.

Covering 3,900 acres and with 69 miles of shoreline, there's plenty to see here.

While you could certainly take a day trip here, many Marylanders spend a weekend or entire week at this lake and its gorgeous surrounding landscape. Cabin rentals are plentiful throughout the area.

Once you're all settled in, head to the lake for all sorts of water adventures. Boating, fishing, and canoeing are common here...

...and swimming, too! I guess you could say that Deep Creek Lake is the largest swimming hole in Maryland, after all.

Speaking of swimming, Deep Creek Lake State Park offers a sprawling beach where you can relax for the day and take a dip. With the surrounding mountain views, it's a dreamy spot, indeed.

There are also plenty of hiking spots around the lake and throughout the area. Explore as much as you can and enjoy the stunning sights.

Although spring and summer are popular times to visit, don't forget to head here during the autumn months to take in the fall foliage and to enjoy the nearby Autumn Glory Festival in Oakland.
