A Trip To This Gigantic Indoor Farmers Market in Maine Will Make Your Weekend Complete
Visit the Portland Farmers' Market winter edition to enjoy locally grown and handcrafted goods indoors every Saturday.
It's truly winter here in Maine. The temperatures are chilly, the wind is whipping and going outside means wearing every layer you've got. But, what does that mean for eating healthy and supporting local artisans and makers? It means heading indoors to find them all in one place! While you're waiting for the summer markets to open again, take a trip to this indoor version that has everything you need and then some.
While there's no denying that the Portland Farmer's Market during the summer in Deering Oaks Park is wonderful, there's no reason we can't by locally grown and handcrafted goods all year round.
To do it, just head to the winter version indoors. It takes place every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and it's got everything you need and a lot of things you probably just want.
Of course, there are the anticipated vegetables. They're grown perfectly, just the way you expect Maine-grown goods to be.
And indoors, you can't browse any day without worrying about also having to carry an umbrella.
You'll find other things as well, including locally made honey.
And even locally spun yarn for your winter crafts projects.
All the same vendors you love in the summer come out to make your weekends lovely in the winter.
And, you can plan on spending a good amount of time here with the entertainment that often lights up the room.
The vendors here are happy to answer questions - probably because they're just happy to be inside!
All of the sellers accept cash and many accept cards as well. The organizers of the Portland Farmers' Market also allow for debit, credit, and SNAP purchases through the Wooden Token system available at the Market Information Booth.
The Portland Farmers' Market winter market takes place every Saturdays from December 1st through April 20th. Hours are 9 .m. to 1 p.m. You can find it at 631 Stevens Ave. Portland, Maine. This is the former site of the Maine Girls Academy. For more information visit their website or check them out on Facebook.
You can also keep your flea market shopping trips going during the winter by visiting these seven shops open all year round.
