Mount Agamenticus in Maine offers stunning views and diverse trails, accessible by both driving and hiking.

There are quite a few adventures to be had in Maine. Whether you consider hitting the trails through the woods a fun time or just strolling the streets of Freeport for some great shopping, there's something for every type of adventurer. But some of us don't consider working up a sweat a fun way to spend the afternoon. An aversion to bugs and the elements doesn't have to keep you from seeing the best of the state, though. Take this drive to see Maine from way up high when you venture to the iconic Mount Agamenticus.

You might expect that you should head inland or to the Midcoast for the best of Maine's views, but despite being a bit closer to sea-level, southern Maine has plenty of ways to take in the same sweeping views.

Mount Agamenticus Park in York offers a surprisingly beautiful way to appreciate the landscape of Maine. And the best part is that you don't even need to strap on your hiking boots!

Instead, Mount Agamenticus offers the ability to drive straight to the summit.

Of course, if you do prefer to hike you'll find that here too. In fact, there are 16 different trails ranging from 1.7 to 7 miles.

The Summit Access Road will take you from the base all the way up to the top.

When you enter from Mountain Road, keep your eyes peeled for the sign indicating "Mount A Summit" and follow the road. The route through the trees is lovely. And it's especially wonderful when you know this view is in store! Beautiful year-round, this is a great way to understand just how huge the natural areas of Maine really are.

With more than 10,000 acres within a 30,000-acre area of conservation land, the Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region is one of the best places to experience the nature of Maine. In fact, it's got the highest diversity of animal and plant species in the state!

The view from the summit is peaceful and quiet, making this a wonderful spot to visit if you're looking for a little alone time. Or, pack that car full of pals and share it!

Mount Agamenticus Park and trails are open year-round from dawn to dusk. The Summit Access Road is open April through September from 6 a.m. to sunset and October through March from 7 a.m. to sunset. There are tons of trails in addition to the drive. You can learn more about visiting through their website, or check out Facebook to see more photos. And, as we all know, there's so much more to do here! In fact, you will never run out of things to see and do at Moosehead Lake in Maine!
