The Under-The-Radar Destination In Louisiana With The Most Beautiful Fall Foliage In The State

It's hard to be a leaf-peeper in Louisiana. First, you've got to keep a close eye on when the leaves are going to change, develop a game plan, and stay flexible. Louisiana's beautiful state parks are a great place to see the fall foliage, but there's one hidden gem that I believe is one of the best places for fall foliage in Louisiana, and you should add it to your calendars this year. Let's check it out:

Located about 30 miles northeast of Shreveport, the Bodcau Wildlife Management Area is the definition of a nature lover’s paradise.

Hunters and fishermen will thoroughly enjoy all of the hunting and fishing opportunities. Whitetail deer and dove hunting are popular pastimes, while fishing and boating on Ivan Lake are always a great way to spend the day. You might just reel in a record-breaking bass!

From the wildlife to the waterfront views, Bodcau Wildlife Management Area 34,355 acres are nothing short of impressive year-round, but it really comes alive during autumn.

The WMA is predominately bottomland hardwood with plenty of waterways flowing through it, including two dams.

There are several trails that weave throughout the Wildlife Management Area.

They’re perfect for an autumn stroll, don’t you think? Dust off your old camera and practice your landscape photography!

It's also a great area for mountain biking.

Northern Louisiana in general has some pretty gnarly mountain bike trails.

There's just something so mesmerizing about seeing the fall colors over the bayou.

It's a brief yet beautiful experience, that's for sure.

The Bodcau Campgrounds offer plenty of opportunities for camping.

Both primitive tent camping and RV spots are available, and all sites have electric hookups. If you don’t have an RV, you can rent one through our friends at RVShare. They offer several different types of RVs and also offer destination delivery. It’s a great way to see if this style of camping is something you could get used to!

If you fall in love with Bodcau WMA in the fall, just wait until winter!

You may be treated to a winter wonderland!

Okay, so this type of snowfall in Louisiana is fairly rare, even for northern Louisiana...but you know what? 2023 weather has been all over the place, I wouldn't be surprised if Louisiana experienced more snowfall than usual this year!

Visit the official Bodcau Wildlife Management Area website for more information including maps, hunting regulations, and more.

Keep the leaf-peeping going by paying a visit to the nearby Lake Claiborne State Park.
