Even though Louisiana is a coastal state, we don't really have the beach reputation our Gulf Coast friends to the east do, but that just means our hidden beaches in Louisiana are that much more special. When you're looking for new outdoor adventures in Louisiana, there's one particular state park that's home to a beautiful little beach that's just delightful on a hot summer day.
Even though Fontainebleau State Park is nowhere near the Gulf, it's home to one of the most delightful little beaches in the Pelican State.
Like all Louisiana State Parks, admission is $3 per person, which is a deal if you ask me!
The beach is located towards the back of the park, where the park meets up with Lake Pontchartrain.
There's a parking lot nearby, and a paved walkway straight to the beach, which will make carrying any beach gear with you much easier than dragging it through the sand.
It's a popular spot for locals to beat the heat during those Louisiana summers, so you may want to go during the week if you want to escape the crowds.
The park is open every day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., so if you can't make it during the week, try to get there early to snag a good spot.
There are a few picnic benches just off of the beach, but you're welcome to bring your own beach chairs and umbrellas to set up.
As with most beaches, shade is hard to come by, and you'll want a shady spot to escape those harsh sunbeams after a while!
If you can, stick around until sunset.
As someone who grew up in this area, I can confirm this is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Louisiana. There's just nothing like it!
Pull up a patch of sand and your favorite beverage and watch the sky paint an incredible show.
You may even be inspired to do a little photoshoot! Many, many high school photos, wedding photos, and family photos have been shot here, it's almost a rite of passage for St. Tammany residents. With views like that, it's a no-brainer.
If you're wanting a coastal beach day, head down to Rutherford Beach, another one of our favorite hidden beaches in Louisiana. It's one of the best places in Louisiana to find seashells, and you can park your car right on the beach!
