Carving time out of your busy day to spend time outside is so important to our mental and physical health. Luckily for us, there are plenty of parks in Louisiana with ample nature trails to explore. There’s one incredible park in the northern part of the state that’s home to a few fascinating hidden gems and it’s a great place to take the family for an outdoor adventure.
The Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the Shreveport area.
The 160-acre park features over five miles of hiking trails to explore.
The trails will weave you through the pine-hickory-oak forest with some delightful scenery along the way.
All of the trails are under two miles long, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.
Depending on the time of year you visit, your path may be peppered with splashes of color from local blooms.
Be sure to stop at the visitor center before you tackle the trails.
There are several informational displays as well as live animal exhibits. It's a great educational opportunity for the little ones!
Speaking of live animals...
...one of the biggest hidden gems at the park are the cool creatures you'll get to meet!
The deer pen is always a hit with the kids.
The park also has an aviary with some of your favorite feathered friends.
There are plenty of special events throughout the year where you can see these raptors up close and learn all about them.
It's not every day you get to see a bald eagle!
