Get Ready To Bundle Up, The Farmers Almanac is Predicting Chilly Temperatures This Winter In Louisiana
Farmers' Almanac predicts a cold and wet winter for Louisiana in 2023-2024.
We all know that Louisiana doesn’t see the harsh winters that our northern friends do, but even without the threat of snowy nor’easters, we still like to know what we’re in for. The Farmers' Almanac winter weather forecast is out for the 2022-2023 season, and it looks like we’re in for a chilly winter, and maybe a few areas of Louisiana will wake up to a light dusting if the conditions are right. The Farmers’ Almanac is predicting record-breaking cold temperatures for some parts of the country, so we just might see a few flurries down in the bayou this winter.
The official start of winter is December 21, 2022, the shortest day of the year. That doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing freezing temperatures on that date, but it is a good indicator of when we may see the winter weather in Louisiana. Our high humidity is going to lend to some bone-chilling temperatures, that’s for sure. According to the Farmers’ Almanac winter weather forecast, there will be some significant weather disturbances for the 2022-2023 winter across the country.
The northern states should bundle up. They’re in for some chilly temperatures!
But what does that mean for Louisiana?
Well, the first week of January is shaping up to be pretty frigid, with the potential for heavy snow that could reach as far south as Texas and Oklahoma, so northern Louisiana should be prepared.
January is the month to keep an eye on.
The Farmers’ Almanac is predicting January to have higher than average snowfall, rainfall, and lower temperatures. It's going to be a frosty one!
Overall, the winter of 2022-2023 is predicted to have more snowfall than previous years, especially in the south-central states.
Now that doesn’t mean the snow will stick to the ground, but just the potential for snow in Louisiana is exciting. But with the northern states experiencing a colder-than-normal winter, there’s a good chance that we could see some of those colder temperatures blow through down here.
The northern part of the state has the best chances of seeing snowfall (though it's not unheard of in the depths of the bayous). The above photo shows Castor Creek after a snowfall a few years ago. There's something truly magical about seeing some sneaux on the bayou!
Even though we may be in for a chilly winter, there’s still plenty to look forward to.
The colder temperatures keep the bugs at bay, so it’s a wonderful time of year to plan a camping expedition or tackle that long hiking trail you’ve been meaning to try.
But we all know the first thing Louisianians do during the first real cold front of the season.
Fire up the burners, you’ve for a roux to make. Gumbo season is here!
