The Sodalis Nature Park Is A Hidden Garden In Indiana Worthy Of A Day Hike
Hidden away in Plainfield, Indiana is a little slice of heaven known as the Sodalis Nature Park. This 1,000+ acre respite from the real world is an excellent opportunity to get outside for a while; with a five-and-a-half acre pond and more than three and a half miles of hiking trails, this secret, hidden garden in Indiana is just another reminder of just how lovely the Hoosier State truly is. Come out and make a day trip of it: this beautiful little escape is a delight and a half.
Welcome to Sodalis Nature Park, which is meticulously cared for by the town of Plainfield.
In 2018, the town purchased the land from, interestingly, the Indianapolis International Airport. It gets its name from an endangered bat species that calls Indiana home.
Forever improving, things never stay the same here for long... unless it's the nature aspect.
Here, you'll find plenty of old forest and mature trees; hiking trails weave all over the woods and lead adventurers to the pond, which has become popular among fisherfolk.
The park exists to do more than just provide a nice place to escape to; it serves to educate the public about endangered species in Indiana.
Amazingly, we're home to more than a few critters considered to be endangered - what better way to learn to coexist peacefully with it all than by experiencing it firsthand?
Few things are as chilled out and laid back as an afternoon stroll through the trees.
Allow the trails and views to transport you to another world; you'll forget for a while that you're somewhere in the Midwest and will, at least for a little while,
Take a few moments to pause and admire the reflections on the water; listen to the birds, the crickets, and more, and find serenity in the middle of a town.
It's an unexpected delight that you're sure to love, especially if you're like I am and occasionally find yourself looking up secret gardens in Indiana.
Maybe it's not a literal secret, but on the quiet afternoons when you're here all by yourself, it sure might feel that way.
