This hiking paradise offers easy, short trails that are perfect for families and long, rugged trails that experienced hikers can enjoy too! At 15,776 acres Brown County State Park is by far the largest park in the state of Indiana. The park opened to the public in 1929 and today it's the state's most visited park.
In the fall visitors from across the Midwest come to Brown County State Park to leaf peep and enjoy the final days of mild temperatures. The park has a wide variety of tree species which is why you can find so many variations of gorgeous Autumn colors.
Hikers will find over 18 miles of hiking trails within the park. There are 12 well-marked trails to choose from. Take one or choose connecting trails for a longer hike.
Looking for an easy hike? Try the Ogle Lake, Stahl Lake, or Friendship trails. The Friendship trail is also paved, making it a great choice for those with limited mobility.
If you're ready for a challenge, choose the Taylor Ridge or Fire Tower trail. These rugged hikes include streams, ridges, valleys, and some steep inclines.
Beautiful vistas and overlooks are one of the many reasons people love to visit Brown County State Park. Be sure to hike up to the lookout tower and the 90-foot fire tower for the views.
After a long hike, you'll want to head behind the Nature Center to enjoy a final stunning view! It's the perfect place to relax and recover before a long drive home.
