One of Illinois' best kept secrets, like many of them, is in southern Illinois. I'm talking about Bell Smith Springs, nestled in the Shawnee National Forest. Getting here is a challenge in itself. But once you are here--wow! Bring the family and get ready for a fun day at the springs.

1. Among these gorgeous rock formations and incredibly lush vegetation lies a series of streams and springs.

2. When the water levels get high, this area is definitely a favorite for swimmers.

3. Depending on rainfall, the water can be rough, and the rocks can be slippery, so be careful!
