Nestled in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest is the Toccoa River Trail, an exhilarating hike that features an abundance of nature.
This 8.5-mile trail is rated as moderate and is best when hiked between June and November.
With an elevation gain of just shy of 1,400-feet, the out-and-back trail has a fascinating attraction along the river—a giant swinging bridge!
This 270-foot bridge is the longest of its kind east of the Mississippi River and is a huge draw within the area.
Built back in the 1970s, the bridge was constructed by the USDA Forest Service while the Blue Ridge Parkway extension to Kennesaw Mountain was under construction.
You can even hike along the famed Benton MacKaye Trail and the Duncan Ridge National Recreation Trail as part of the journey.
The beauty of this area is as mesmerizing as you would imagine, being high above the Toccoa River surrounded by nature.
