The DeSoto Falls Trail outside of Dahlonega, Georgia is a 1.9 out-and-back hike that is dubbed great for all skill levels.
With very minimal elevation gain, this hike through the forest is a true gem, especially within the spring and summer months.
What’s so magical about this trail outside of the vibrancy of nature in every corner and pocket, is the history behind it.
If you keep an eye out at the trailhead, you’ll find a sign which details that the name of the trail is based off of a discovery of a plate of armor back in the 1880s.
Lumber companies were deforesting the area and found a breastplate and then an intact sword that was said to belong to explorer Hernando deSoto.
The hike will transport you back in time but also highlight the beauty of the area as it takes you to not one, but two different waterfalls.
