The Incredible Hike In Georgia That Leads To A Fascinating Abandoned Quarry
There's no shortage of great hikes in the Peach State, and we also have plenty of abandoned places in Georgia. Combine the two together and you end up with a beautiful trek through nature that also has an eerie vibe to it. There's something powerful about being in an abandoned place that once served as something else. Even if you aren't a particularly firm believer in the paranormal, it's not hard to imagine that spirits could remain in these spots. You can almost feel the vibes from an area's past life when you're in an abandoned mental hospital or strolling through a ghost town. One of our favorite "abandoned hikes" in Georgia is the Pine Log Creek Trail in Rydal, GA, which passes right by an old quarry that's no longer in use. Check it out:
This is one of the most epic hikes in North Georgia. It's a 4.2-mile loop trail that's considered moderately difficult, but the scenery is definitely worth the effort.
It's worth noting that this is prime yellow jacket country, so watch where you step (and where you put your hands).
The hike takes you right to an old quarry, and man, are the views pretty!
The trail is pretty shaded, so you'll find that it's not too hot, even in the warmer months.
The water-filled quarry is the perfect spot for a picnic.
How gorgeous are the exposed outcroppings?
This area was once home to a thriving Cherokee town.
The quarry was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps and was one of several mines that were in this area.
It may no longer be producing minerals, but this is certainly a wonderful spot for recreation.
