Is there any better season than fall in Georgia? Autumn has it all, from delicious foods to fun fall festivals, not to mention cooler days after the brutal heat of a Peach State summer. As the weather begins its transition, I look forward to those first few crisp mornings. Those mornings are a warm reminder that change is necessary, and the most beautiful parts of life are oftentimes fleeting.

If you find yourself wondering, "When do the leaves change color in Georgia?" Well, you’re in the right place! Leaf peeping is such a fun autumn activity, and there are plenty of great destinations to spot fall foliage in Georgia, but you definitely want to time your adventures properly.

So, if you're looking to plan a fall foliage road trip in Georgia, we've got the 2025 Smoky Mountains fall foliage map that will help you figure out when the trees will be at their peak colors. Keep in mind that Mother Nature can be unpredictable, so the map is only a “best-guess” guide. The good news? The magical season will be here before we know it, and I am more than excited to welcome the change.

If living in Georgia has taught us anything, it's that the weather can be unpredictable. It's not unusual to have 90-degree days well past Labor Day through much of the state! There's no sure answer for "when do leaves change in Georgia?" The Smoky Mountain map uses weather conditions and history to try to determine when leaves all over the country will be at peak colors.

By the middle of October, you can expect most of the state to have patchy autumn hues. Towards the end of October and early November, North Georgia should be right around peak colors. It doesn't get cool enough in most of South Georgia for areas like Albany or Savannah to see much fall foliage, but head towards the North Georgia mountains and you'll be treated to beautiful views. By the end of November, all those gorgeous golds, oranges, and reds will be gone.

Since the season is only here for a few short weeks, I'd recommend that you start planning your leaf peeping adventures in Georgia soon. Some of my favorite places to welcome the season are inside our state parks. The most magical destinations include Tallulah Gorge State Park, Amicalola Falls State Park, and Black Rock Mountain State Park.

I know it's a bit cliché, but I love visiting the mountain town of Helen. It's such a delightful small town, and the natural scenery is just as amazing as the German vibe. You'll also want to add Anna Ruby Falls Recreation Area to your list. I can't get enough of the twin waterfalls that glow magically amongst the changing leaves. Don't leave your camera at home - the scenes are simply spectacular here.

When fall arrives, there's nothing like hitting the trails. Autumn's cool breezes make even lengthy trails less of a challenge, and that scenery really makes exercising so much more fun.
