The Night Sky In Georgia Will Light Up With Four Different Meteor Showers This November

Explore the best natural wonders in Georgia, from waterfalls and caves to scenic overlooks and unique rock formations.

While November in Georgia usually brings out the shorter days, colder weather, and potential for snow, there is an upside to this seasonal shift—meteor showers! This month alone, Georgians will be able to see three different meteor showers, including the Orionids, the Southern Taurids, the Northern Taurids, and the Leonids. Here are some things you should know in order to catch each of these meteor showers in Georgia:

Right now in Georgia, there are three different active meteor showers that are taking place— the Southern Taurids, the Northern Taurids, and the Orionids. Starting November 16, Leonids will be peaking, too.

Like most other meteor showers, the Orionids, Southern Taurids, and the Leonids were all formed by passing comments over the years.

Meanwhile, the Northern Taurids originated from an asteroid known as 2004 TG10.

The Orionids will be the first to end their run in Georgia over the next week or so, while the Southern Taurids will be following suit on November 20.

However, Northern Taurids will be running all the way through December 10, with peak nights on November 11 and 12.

If you happen to catch any of these showers on either peak nights or clear nights, you’ll likely be privy to catch a fireball lighting up the sky in front of you.

Many of these showers have been happening since late October, so you’ll want to make a plan to get out there and get a good look before they’re gone!

Enjoy not one, not two, not three, but four different breathtaking meteor showers in Georgia this month.

So, what do you think of these meteor showers in Georgia? Will you plan to catch any? We’d love to hear from you! Also, if you need a place to catch any of these star showers, then make sure to check out the designated Dark Sky Park Stephen C. Foster State Park.
