Sometimes, I just need a quick hiking trail, one that is bursting with natural beauty, to really boost my serotonin levels. Florida has plenty of wonderful hiking trails that aren't incredibly arduous, could be completed in less than an hour, and won't take a big lift to finish. Take the Lake Jesup Conservation Area as the perfect example. There are a handful of trails within this area near Sanford, Florida that are worth checking out, but I'm recommending the Marl Bed Point Trail, in particular, as the perfect place to start. At just about two and a half miles in length, this trail offers scenic beauty, plus blossoming wildflowers, that really elevate the experience.
The Marl Bed Point Trail in Sanford, Florida, is a 2.4-mile trail that loops you through some beautiful scenery before bringing your back to the parking area.
Generally considered a very easy route due to the minimal elevation gain, this is a great hike for beginners and anyone looking for a simple, straightforward trek.
The trail is open year-round, but we want to encourage you to hike during the spring and summer months, as the wildflowers you’ll see will take your breath away.
Not only is the area some of the best for birdwatching, but it also features fields of swamp sunflowers, which provide sweeping golden views across the lake’s edge.
While the time to see these wildflowers in bloom can vary, once you witness this marvel in person you’ll want to go back each and every year.
It’s not just swamp sunflowers you’ll come across either. There are other pockets of flowers that bloom, creating a symphony of color everywhere you look.
Just be careful to check the conditions before you go. We’ve seen that the area can get quite flooded depending on the levels of rain and any flooding that may occur.
Hike the Marl Bed Point Trail in Sanford, Florida, for a beautiful spring experience you won’t forget.
