Yosemite National Park is one of the most spectacular natural wonders in Northern California. This national park is home to incredible epic spots like El Capitan and Bridalveil Falls that draw thousands to see. But, there is a little-known natural wonder in this Northern California national park that also deserves some attention — Gaylor Lakes. But, to enjoy it, you’ll have to put forth a little effort. Come along as we take a little peek and be inspired!

Gaylor Lakes are stunning alpine lakes surrounded by incredible mountain views.

However, to reach these alpine lakes, you must tackle the Gaylor Lakes Trail, one of the most underrated hiking trails in Yosemite National Park.

The trailhead to Gaylor Lakes is located just off Tioga Road. This is a 2-mile round-trip hike that is moderate in difficulty.

Be aware that Tioga Road is not open to vehicles during the winter. You will want to visit the national park’s website to determine if the road to the trailhead is open.

Along the trail, you will climb approximately 500 feet in elevation.

Pay attention as you climb as there can be rocky and rough areas of the trail you will have to traverse.

The trail to the lakes is beautiful — you’ll hike through thick forests …

… and capture some incredible views along the way. If you need to stop and take a break on your journey, these viewpoints are some of the best locations.

Once you reach the alpine lakes, you will be grateful you put in the effort to reach this incredible scene.

The lakes are surrounded by meadows and mountains, providing picturesque views that you’ll certainly want a camera to capture some amazing pictures.

While this trail is less popular than other hikes in Yosemite National Park, it can still become quite crowded on the weekends.

We suggest exploring this trail during the weekday or getting an early start to your day just after sunrise.

Although, no matter when you begin the Gaylor Lakes Trail, you'll be glad you tackled this short but wonderful 2-mile hiking journey.

Take note that pets are not allowed on this hiking trail and don't forget to come prepared with water and sun protection. For more information on this hiking trail and little-known natural wonder in Northern California, visit the National Park Service website.
