This Easy, Under-A-Mile Trail Leads To Pam’s Grotto, One Of Arkansas’ Most Underrated Waterfalls

Discover the beauty of Haw Creek Falls and the hidden gem Pam's Grotto in Arkansas.

When wondering about "waterfalls near me" in Arkansas, your search probably led you to Haw Creek Falls, one of the state's most famous waterfalls. However, your waterfall-chasing adventure hasn't stopped when you've reached the well-known Haw Creek Falls. Although this recreation area has everything you need for a weekend away, there's even more to discover! Pam's Grotto is an underrated side adventure to add to the trip. This gorgeous grotto doesn't make the typical Arkansas waterfall bucket list but it's well worth the hike!

Every Arkansas family needs to spend a weekend (or at the very least an hour) at Haw Creek Recreation Area.

The area is one of the waterfall oases located in the middle of the Ozark National Forest. In addition to the main feature Haw Creek Falls, the rec area also has nine no-reservations-needed campsites. Keep tabs on the current conditions by visiting the U.S. Forest Service website. Haw Creek is stunning but it's not the end of this adventure.

On the northern side of AR-123, across from Haw Creek Falls, is a rather underrated hike.

The hike is a manageable .8-mile out-and-back trail to Pam's Grotto. This trek is not an official trail but is well-worn. Most families find the hike accessible for children, though do keep an eye out for slippery rocks! It's best to research this area further and download a GPS-friendly map before setting off.

Pam's Grotto is a breathtaking spot that feels hidden from the world.

Pictures just don't give the 37-foot waterfall justice! After following the bluff line along the trail, you'll hear the waterfall before spotting it. The waterfall is tucked away behind giant boulders but opens up into a lovely grotto.

There's plenty of room to explore all angles of this fall!

Perch on the towering boulders in front of the falls or head into the rock shelter behind the spray.

Although this hike doesn't take long, you'll want plenty of time to enjoy the tranquility of Pam's Grotto.

After you've taken your pics and explored the area just head back the way you came. Add this side adventure before or after seeing Haw Creek Falls.
