Scottsdale is full of flashy restaurants, shops, and hotels, but a much more underrated tourist attraction has been hiding right under our noses: Arizona Canal. This century-old piece of infrastructure was not only crucial to the development of our state, but it's also an incredibly beautiful place to visit.
Dating back to the late 1800s, Arizona Canal is an integral piece of infrastructure in our state.
It still provides irrigation to residential neighborhoods in the area, while also providing a place for joggers and cyclists to stay active.
Although it's no Venice or San Antonio, any capacity of water is much appreciated in the desert.
You'll often see flowers or another vibrant element sitting on the surface, adding a touch of color to brighten up your day.
Not only is the canal aesthetically pleasing, but it's also incredibly functional!
Tons of restaurants, shops, and even art galleries are located along the waterway, which adds a peaceful ambiance to an ordinary stroll through Old Town Scottsdale.
Sculptures abound both in and around the canal, many of which are the work of local artists.
They serve as a perfect catalyst for introspection on an early morning walk, or perhaps simply remind us to appreciate simplicity as the sun sets overhead.
Outdoor art shows are frequently held here, and happening upon one will only elevate the experience even further.
The pieces are designed to work with the natural surroundings, creating immersive exhibits guaranteed to draw onlookers in after a mere passing glance. Food trucks and live music are usually present at these events, as well!
There are many different ways to enjoy this oasis in the desert - you can hike, bike, roller blade, or even hop on a segway!
Segway of Scottsdale has two-hour tours starting at $59, and you'll cover a whopping five miles of the city during that time.
You'll find the canal in Paradise Valley, which is Scottsdale's northernmost subdivision. It's located about 30 minutes northeast of Phoenix.
