There's plenty to love about Arizona, but among the best parts of Grand Canyon State life is the plethora of incredible hiking trails. From lush forest groves to rugged badlands and everything in between, we truly get to enjoy it all. Douglas Springs Trail, located within Saguaro National Park, features natural staircases and a gorgeous hidden waterfall. Check it out:
Whether you're in the mood for a full-blown backpacking trek or a quick and easy stroll, Douglas Springs Trail is easily among the most versatile hikes in Arizona.
The entire length is 16.6 miles, however, you can trek to Bridal Wreath Falls and back in just six.
The terrain is exactly what you'd expect from a Tucson hike -- at least in the beginning.
The rugged, high desert landscape slowly fades into the iconic forest groves of the Rincon Mountains.
A total elevation gain of just under 3,500 feet means you're in for a workout.
Don't let the number freak you out, though, as the ascent is gradual. The path leads up a series of natural staircases, flattening out enough in between for you to catch your breath.
In the throes of daily life, we seldom stop and appreciate how beautiful Tucson really is.
From a birds-eye perspective, however, where the hustle and bustle is nothing but a distant memory, sweeping panoramic views showcase our city in all its glory.
As we mentioned previously, Bridal Wreath Falls is about six miles into the hike.
It's a perfect spot to either turn back or simply take a break and listen to the peaceful sound of running water before continuing on.
People have even been known to enjoy a picnic lunch here amid the breathtaking natural scenery.
Can you imagine a better view to admire while you eat?
Something else noteworthy about Douglas Spring Trail is that it offers year-round adventure.
In winter, snow blankets the Saguaros that line the pathway and creates a scene that perfectly encapsulates the holiday season in Arizona.
