9 Places In Alaska That Will Make You Wish You Lived Underground

We all know Alaska is well known for its many glaciers and mountains, and the perk about those two things is that there ends up being a lot of COOL places that exist underground. I mean "cool" both literally and figuratively because a lot of these caves look too chilly for words. These tunnels and caves give us an extraordinary look into the landscape of Alaska. It's obvious after seeing these photos that there is much more than meets the eye when exploring the Last Frontier, or shall I say "Seward's Icebox."

1) Water flowing through a Mendenhall Glacier Cave.

Mendenhall Glacier is famous for its entrancing ice caves.

2) Snow cave near Deer Mountain, Ketchikan.

Even in the summer months this cave remains frozen solid. I bet wildlife take advantage of a cave like this!

3) Take a sled ride to this glacier cave just outside of Girdwood.

Don't those steps add a homey feel to the entrance of this cave?

4) The perfect spot to put your feet up.

Now this lady knows what's up! What could be more enjoyable than kicking back in a hammock deep in the cavernous walls of an ice glacier?

5) A sea cave along the south side of Turnagain Arm.

Wouldn't it be nice to wake up to this view every morning? With the shelter of the cave you don't have to worry about the cold gusts of wind and you can enjoy the view.

6) Ice cave at Lamplugh Glacier.

The inside of this glacier is equally as beautiful as the outside. You just need to be brave enough to go inside :)

7) Ice cave in Kennicott, Alaska.

The water is still flowing under the tall ceilings of this ice cave.

8) White Pass Railroad tunnel.

Ride the rails to see the impressive inside to this tunnel through White Pass.

9) Take in 2.5 miles of the Wittier Tunnel.

If you're traveling from Portage to Wittier via train you'll have to pass through the Whittier Tunnel... that's 2.5 miles of tunnel time.
