Dismals Canyon in Alabama is a scenic canyon that's located in the small town of Phil Campbell. It's a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.
While exploring this beautiful outdoor space, which became a National Natural Landmark in 1975, you'll be surrounded by lots of lush green forest and encounter a variety of things, a few of which include...
...man-made and natural bridges,...
...numerous moss-covered boulders, and even a...
...gorgeous waterfall. Pictured is Rainbow Falls, which happens to be one of Alabama's most stunning hidden waterfalls.
The most unique things living at Dismals Canyon, which you'll be able to see once it turns dark, are the dismalites. Dismalites are rare insects that resemble glowworms, and Dismals Canyon is one of the few places in the world where you'll find them.
The best time to see dismalites is during these two peak seasons: spring peak, which is late April through May, and fall peak, which is late September to the beginning of October. Dismalites can be seen via a guided night tour. We have the Dismalite Guided Night Tour Schedule for you!
