Here in Alabama, winter is always a bit of a wild card. As this time of year quickly approaches, we can't help but feel anxious about the weather temperatures. The best way to determine this is by referencing the Farmers' Almanac, which is released each year. This year, the Farmers' Almanac winter weather forecast is predicting some frigid temperatures, so get ready to bundle up.
Alabama's winter weather for 2022-2023 is expected to be quite chilly with a mixed bag of precipitation according to this year's prediction. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Farmers' Almanac, which was first published in 1818, it's the best source of published weather forecasts. Even though its prediction isn't always correct, it does tend to have around an 80% accuracy rate.
Because of this winter's below-average temperatures, you'll certainly want to bundle up to keep warm. So, grab your coat, gloves, scarf, and hat!
While the official start of winter is December 21, 2022, we could see the start of Alabama winter weather in early December.
January is the month to keep an eye on. An arctic blast of cold air will be sweeping the nation in the middle of the month, causing some record-breaking temperatures in some parts of the country. We're talking 40 below!
That arctic blast will warm up by the time it reaches Alabama, but it will still make for some drastic temperatures. The Farmers' Almanac has also predicted an active storm track for January, which means Alabama could experience various forms of precipitation, including snow, rain, sleet, and ice. Alabama typically sees an average of one inch of snowfall per year (the national average is 28 inches), but with these temperatures, there could be parts of Alabama that see some snow that usually doesn't.
In March, precipitation should be close to normal nationwide.
By the end of March, we should be seeing the end to Alabama's winter weather, but it's shaping up to be a rainy month so keep your umbrella handy. You can view the Farmers' Almanac winter weather forecast for more information including what to expect across the country.
