We might enjoy our personal space more than most here in Montana, but there's also a strong sense of community in the Treasure State you just won't find anywhere else. If you grew up in Kalispell, you've certainly heard of — and probably spent a lot of time at — Sykes. This interesting combination of diner, market, and pharmacy has been around for more than 100 years. And although it may look different now than it did a century ago, the motto is the same: nobody goes away a stranger.
Sykes is located on 2nd Ave. W., in a building that now also houses luxury apartments.
When Doug and Judy Wise sold the business — after 60 years of ownership — to Ray Thompson, he did some renovating and remodeling to modernize the place.
While everything is shiny and new, this place definitely still has its original charms.
Step inside and you'll find a market packed with gifts, groceries, sandwiches, beer, and wine. There's even a small coffee shop and deli.
The diner is the prime gathering spot at Sykes, both for the food and the atmosphere.
Between the large portions and reasonable prices, including the notorious 10-cent cup of coffee, you'll be impressed.
The diner serves breakfast and lunch daily, and it's safe to say you won't leave hungry.
The breakfast Benedicts are mindblowing, and the sandwiches are enormous.
The food here is delicious, there's no doubt about it — but the service is even better.
Sykes is known for their friendly team, and that's a reputation every owner has taken pride in preserving.
While current circumstances don't allow for the dining room to be open, you can still get your Sykes meals to go or local delivery through Door Dash and Café Courier.
While they've had to reduce their menu temporarily, you can still enjoy plenty of tasty food here.
Come see why Sykes has been a local favorite in Kalispell for over a century.
This is the kind of one-of-a-kind place that makes Montana so fantastic.
