Throughout Montana, there are certainly a variety of ways to get close to nature. In fact, I'd argue that there's no better state in the country for mountain breezes, solitude, and adventure. The only problem? We're not the only people who know this to be true about the Treasure State. Over the years, the state has seen a steady increase in tourism and while we love this for the local economy, it can make some of our favorite trails a bit busier than they used to be. If you're feeling this, it might be time to explore new routes. This lesser-known trail in Montana isn't far from the center of Bozeman and it offers lots of beauty.
Make your way to beautiful Bozeman, Montana, and you'll certainly have no shortage of things to do. From restaurants to shopping, Bozeman has gone from relatively undiscovered to one of the hottest spots in America in just a few years. That can have many people in search of things to do that don't include tons of other people.
And that's why we love the 4.2-mile Hood Creek Trail located within the Custer Gallatin National Forest.
This out-and-back route is mostly shaded with a gradual elevation gain. Other hikers say it's a nice way to have a relaxed exploration.
While you can go to the end of the route for views of a creek, many people agree that the viewpoint reached after about one mile is the best part of this hike. The views are absolutely stunning.
We recommend spending some time here to take it all in before heading to the end of the trail and turning around. Or you can choose to head back after the viewpoint.
The trail connects to a few other routes, making it easy to turn this hike into something much longer.
However you choose to enjoy this lesser-known trail in Montana, we're confident that you'll love ever step.
The Hood Creek Trail can be accessed any time of year, but other hikers say it's best from May through October. You can learn more about the Hood Creek Trail by visiting AllTrails. This 4.2-mile hike can be completed in just a few hours, but if you'd like to stick around Bozeman to check out additional routes and local restaurants, we recommend booking a vacation rental to make it a long weekend.
And, after enjoying this lesser-known trail in Montana, you might want to check out a nearby beginner-level hike that's just as beautiful as the Hood Creek Trail.
