Those who love the full spectrum of seasons will find that Montana is absolutely perfect. Gorgeous fall foliage, followed by snowy winters, green springs, and epic summers mean you can enjoy everything you love about the outdoors all year long. For many that means continuing to hit the trails even with snow on the ground. But, some people just want to continue to take in the fresh air and trees surrounding them. For that, I love visiting the Yellowstone Arboretum. It's located within ZooMontana, a 70-acre wildlife park in Billings. Most people visit to see animals in their natural habitat, but it's worth carving out some time to enjoy this arboretum in Montana, too.
Welcome to the Yellowstone Arboretum, located within ZooMontana in Billings. It was dedicated in 2018 and today invites guests to enjoy plants, flowers, and trees throughout its 70-acre area.
The arboretum includes 150 different species of native and non-native trees, shrubs, and vines. And, it's all connected to the main paths of the zoo.
There are ten distinct areas of the arboretum, all perfect for discovering new things to love about Montana.
From wooded pathways to pretty waterways, the spaces within the arboretum all feel unique and different.
One of the largest areas of this arboretum in Montana is the "Sensory Garden," which is home to the first trees ever planted here in the 1990s.
There are also lots of areas to enjoy flowers. The Asian Garden is my favorite. It features plants that exist at the same latitude as Montana in places like China, Japan, and the Korean Peninsula.
Throughout the year, there are special education events, perfect for learning more about the area and the state.
No matter how you choose to enjoy your time here, you'll find peace of mind and lots of beauty.
Yellowstone Arboretum is open throughout the year but operates at different hours depending on the season. To see hours and plan your visit, be sure to visit the Yellowstone Arboretum website. For information on special events, you'll want to follow Yellowstone Arboretum on Facebook. They can be reached at 406-652-8100.
After enjoying a visit to this arboretum in Montana, start making plans to visit other gardens in the state. There are plenty of parks and gardens in Montana, so be sure to start knocking them off your list.
