No matter how long you call Montana home or how many times you visit, it never fails to take your breath away. There’s simply no place on Earth like the Treasure State, and that’s just the way we like it.
When you need a reminder of how incredibly good we have it, just head to a few of these places. They speak for themselves.
1. Going-to-the-Sun Road
The time is almost right to enjoy the beautiful stretch of Glacier National Park that some consider the most beautiful drive in the world.
2. Flathead Lake
We've got dozens and dozens of beautiful lakes in Montana. But there's something so magnificent about Flathead Lake (especially in the summertime) that makes it worth visiting again and again.
3. Makoshika State Park
Many Montanans have never even heard of this Montana gem, much less visited. One day spent here just might turn you into a geology buff.
4. East Glacier Park Village
This small village sits quietly inside our state's greatest treasure, Glacier National Park. It's a charming throwback to the "good old days" with a couple of old school eateries, lodging, and plenty of beautiful scenery.
5. The Saint Mary and Virginia Falls Trail, Glacier National Park
Speaking of Glacier, this 3 mile trail is one of the park's most popular, and for good reason. It's full of amazing park views and soothing waterfalls.
6. Virginia City and Nevada City
It's impossible to feel anything but love for Montana after spending a day exploring these perfectly preserved ghost towns, especially in the summertime when the entertainment includes a cast of characters in costume wandering the streets.
7. Chico Hot Springs ... or any Montana hot springs, really
There's something so incredibly soothing about a soak in our mineral waters. A weekend at one of our hot springs resorts will remind you that life in Montana is quite good.
There's a lot to love about this charming little city. We've mentioned before how
amazing Livingston is,
and despite its sometimes harsh, windy weather, it's pretty spectacular.
9. Kootenai Falls
Located just outside of Libby, the easy hike to the falls involves a heart-pounding walk over a swinging bridge and the kind of natural beauty you'll only find in northwest Montana.
10. St. Ignatius
Nestled at the foot of the Mission Mountains, St. Ignatius is a small town that's home to the spectacular St. Ignatius Mission, famous for its 58 murals hand-painted by Brother Joseph Carignano.
11. Beartooth Highway
Wind your way through the places where southeast Montana meets Wyoming, taking in the beautiful sights of the canyon.
12. Fort Benton
Walking along the banks of the Missouri River and learn about our local history in this incredibly charming town.
13. Gates of the Mountains
Take a boat tour through this canyon near Helena and you'll come to appreciate Montana in a whole new way.
There’s no doubt about it…
Montana is the best state.
