If you love Italian food, Montana is a great place to call home — from Anaconda's La Casa Toscana to the always delightful local chain Ciao Mambo, we've got plenty of places to enjoy a hearty plate of pasta. But if you happen to stumble upon Blacksmith Italian in Bozeman, you'll agree that it's in its own league.
Blacksmith Italian is located at 290 W Kagy Blvd. in Bozeman.
The restaurant has only been open since 2013, but the history of this place goes back much further.
Owner Steve Dragone's grandfather, Stefano Dragone, moved to the United States from Italy when he was 18. He returned briefly to Italy but eventually brought his new bride back.
Stefano and his wife, Maria, had eight children and spent the rest of their days in the USA. While Stefano never did own a restaurant (he was a blacksmith, which is where the restaurant gets its name), he did make his own wine.
Stefano's adventurous spirit lives on in Steve and Steve's son, Cory, who is the head chef.
Cory has been cooking since he was 15, and he knew from a young age he wanted to own a restaurant one day.
The food at Blacksmith Italian is outstanding.
From the snacks and small plates to the hearty entrees, this is Italian food at its finest.
While we highly recommend ordering pasta here, order with caution — it might ruin all other pasta for you.
It's all made fresh daily with Montana organic semolina, durum flours, and Montana farm-fresh eggs. The freshness makes a world of difference.
