Here in the Show Me State, there are a handful of stunning waterfalls. However, many of them only appear after rainy days, and they aren’t always easy to access. Many of our most beautiful waterfalls require a hike through the woods…well, except for one. What are the best waterfall hikes in Missouri?
A few of the best waterfall hikes in Missouri include:

  • Rocky Falls Shut-Ins
  • Trail Through Time
  • Old Kate & Waterfall Trail
  • Mina Sauk Falls Trail

We can all probably agree that one of Mother Nature’s most spectacular masterpieces is the waterfall. While we don’t have a ton of waterfalls in Missouri, we have several – a few are hiding in plain sight while others require a trek. One of the best waterfall hikes in Missouri is, hands down, the Mina Sauk Falls Trail. Meandering three miles through Taum Sauk Mountain State Park, Mina Sauk Falls Trail boasts a few impressive features – it leads to the highest point in Missouri AND to the tallest waterfall. Mina Sauk Falls tumbles down 132 feet. The trail is rated moderate, so be prepared for a bit of a challenge due, in large part, to rocky terrain. Even if you’re not up for the entire three-mile trek, you’re in luck. Mina Sauk Falls sits close to the halfway point. You can hike to it, take a breather, snap photos, and head back to the trailhead.

Are there any waterfalls where I can swim in Missouri?
There are a few waterfalls where you can swim in Missouri. Here are three of the best places to swim under waterfalls in MO:

  • Rocky Falls
  • Grand Falls
  • Rocky Falls Shut-Ins

Both Rocky Falls near Eminence and Grand Falls in Joplin, two majestic waterfalls, are picture-perfect all year around. If you want peace and quiet, you’ll definitely want to visit in the off-season, particularly in the winter. However, during the hottest days of the summer, you’ll find the pools into which both drops are perfect for cooling off. The two Missouri waterfalls are popular with visitors – and can get incredibly crowded – during the summertime. If you’re heading to Grand Falls, make sure you bring a chair if you plan on relaxing on the sidelines.

Rocky Falls, on the other hand, features picnic tables, grills, and bathrooms. It’s the perfect spot to spend a summer day. Make sure you also plan a visit to both waterfalls in each season – Rocky Falls and Grand Falls look particularly striking when flanked by the fall foliage, transform into a winter wonderland after a fresh snowfall, and promise lush greenery in the spring.
