For over 40 years, the historic town of Kimmswick has held the Annual Apple Butter Festival in Missouri on the last full weekend of October. Every year, the Kimmswick Historical Society hosts the annual Apple Butter Festival. This year's event will happen on October 28th and 29th. Under the Apple Butter Pavilion, the sweet smell of apples and spices wafts through the air as they prepare a huge batch of this brown butter.

Before the festival opens, locals peel and prepare the apples for use. A huge wood fire is lit and the kettle is filled with apples. Visitors can take a turn cooking and stirring the concoction. After seven to eight hours the fragrant spread is thick enough to be sealed in jars.

Saturday draws the largest crows. For an enjoyable experience with less people come out on a Sunday between 10 and noon. The streets are closed to traffic during the event, but you can park nearby at Windsor High School and take a bus down to the festival.
