Despite which story may be true, the fact remains: It’s a picture-perfect day trip destination in Missouri.
Local legend tells that the darling small town of Aurora got its name from the Goddess of Dawn, Aurora. Others claim it earned its moniker from the Northern Lights.
Regardless of the origin of the name, the charming small town (well, it’s officially a city) dates back to 1870 and is home to more than 7,000 residents.
Carve out at least a day for your visit to Aurora, although you’ll find plenty to do to make it into a longer getaway – a weekend, maybe more? If you love the outdoors, for example, explore one of the four community parks – Baldwin, Crosby, Oak, or White.
For a blast from the past, time your trip for when the Sunset Drive-In Theatre is open. Catch a double feature under the stars, and dig into a whole lot of deliciousness from the concession stand.
Be prepared to do a lot of shopping, too, especially if you like to go treasure hunting. You’ll find a generous selection of flea markets, thrift stores, and other eclectic shops in Aurora.
A trip to Aurora also promises plenty of good eats. The darling town is home to an array of restaurants – from barbecue and pizza to Mexican and burgers.
