If you’re from Mississippi, chances are you’ve spent a day or two along the Ross R. Barnett Reservoir. There are several different access points and parks dotted along the shores of Mississippi’s largest drinking water resource, but if you’re looking to escape the crowds and take the path less traveled, then you should make your way over to Pelahatchie Shore Park. It's one of my favorite parks along the reservoir, and I think you'll love it!
Overlooking Pelahatchie Bay, Pelahatchie Shore Park is a little slice of paradise right on the water that the entire family will enjoy.
The water is one of the main attractions of this park, so go ahead and bring your beach chairs and set them up.
Don't forget to bring a beach umbrella. While there are trees nearby that can offer some shade, we all know how hot Mississippi summers can be.
There is a boat launch at the park, and exploring the water by boat is always a good idea.
Fishing is also popular in these waters, so feel free to bring your tackle box along for the journey.
Picnic tables and pavilions are scattered throughout the park, as well as a little beach area the kids will love.
Pelahatchie Shore Park is dog friendly, just remember to keep them on a leash.
Alligators are common sightings around here, so keep them on a leash, please!
Pelahatchie Shore Park's disc golf course also has an 18-hole disc golf course.
If you've never tried to play disc golf, what are you waiting for?
It's a low-impact sport that the entire family can enjoy, and you can get the discs just about anywhere. Overstock has a 6-pack for $30, and they have multiple colors, so everyone in your family can pick their favorite.
Plus, you can always use any extra discs for a game of fetch with your pup!
If you can, stick around until sunset.
Nothing compares to a sunset over the water. If you know, you know!
Visit the Pelahatchie Shore Park website to see a map of the park. For more fun on The Rez, grab some grub at Cock of the Walk, a waterfront restaurant not far from the park with even more beautiful reservoir views.
